Hachette Moves Toward E-Book Agreement
Following the new terms on e-book sales reached by HarperCollins, Hachette Book Group said it is also working toward new deals, though no timetable has been announced. In a statement released Tuesday, the company said that, "Hachette Book Group is engaged in productive discussions with e-book distribution agents to conform our agreements to the terms of the settlement, and do not anticipate disruption of sales of our e-books." more »

Lanora Haradon, the owner of The Next Chapter Bookshop north of Milwaukee, abruptly closed her three-year-old store Tuesday morning and resigned as president of MIBA, effective immediately. more »

S&S Signs Clive Davis Memoir
Record producer Clive Davis has sold his memoir to Simon & Schuster. Eric Simonoff at William Morris Endeavor brokered the North American rights deal, closing at auction, with S&S publisher Jonathan Karp. Davis will be writing the book (which is his second, after Clive: Inside The Record Business) with music journalist Anthony DeCurtis, and publication is planned for February 2013. more »
HarperCollins Signs Peter Lerangis to Seven-Book Deal
HarperCollins Children's Books has bought Seven Wonders, a seven-book middle-grade adventure series by Peter Lerangis, author of three books in Scholastic's bestselling 39 Clues series. The first book, The Colossus Rises, goes on sale February 5, 2013, with six more novels to follow every nine months. In addition, seven journal-style novellas will be published, each arriving seven weeks prior to each novel's publication. The first, The Select, will be released as a free e-book prequel on December 18. more »
Shindig Offers Authors Interactive Video Conferencing
Joining a growing list of services that offer real-time video chat capabilities, Shindig is a recently launched platform that authors and publishers can use to replicate the book tour experience online. Authors can create an account and then present a talk or reading or show avideo, as in a webinar. However, Shindig also offers the ability to see other participants via their webcams. more »

Writer, book marketer and social media consultant-turned entrepreneur Felicia Pride has big plans for an updated and revised e-book version of her popular 2007 title The Message: Life Lessons from Hip-Hop's Greatest Songs.
