Amazon Unveils New Kindle Fire HD Tablets
Amazon has refreshed its line of Kindles, introducing four new devices, updating the original Kindle Fire, and dropping the price on the cheapest e-ink Kindle to $69. The first new devices begin shipping next week and all will be out before Thanksgiving. more »

Ingram to Distribute Kobo eReaders to Indie Bookstores
Just one week after the American Booksellers Association announced that it will partner with Kobo to sell e-books, the organization announced that Ingram Content Group will be the exclusive distributor of Kobo eReaders to ABA members. These include the eReaders that Kobo unveiled earlier this week: Kobo Glo, a front-lit eReader; the Kobo Mini, the smallest full-featured eReader available; and the Kobo Arc, an Android 4.0 multimedia tablet. As part of the program, participating booksellers will receive free displays, demo devices, a cash bonus for participating, rebates for sell-through, and product returnability. more »
Avon Launches New User-Generated Website
Avon has lauched AvonRomance.com, a romance community Website that aggregates online content, spotlighting an array of user-generated posts and commentary. The website features editorials, book reviews, pictures, videos, news, and special promotions from Avon authors, romance readers, and influential online reviewers, as well as Avon Romance editors and marketers. The site redesign and interactive and social capabilities are powered by Tidal. Titles on the Website are sold through all major retailers including Amazon, Books-A-Million, and Indiebound. more »
Graphic Arts Books Buys Pruett Publishing Titles
Graphic Arts Books has acquired the trade titles and publishing rights of Pruett Publishing Company of Boulder, Col. The deal includes about 50 books which Graphic Arts will publish under its WestWinds Press imprint. But the Pruett name will not be disappearing as Graphic Arts said it will add "The Pruett Series" on the back cover to each title as it reprints or reissues the titles as both print and e-books. more »

Northern California Children's Booksellers Group to Merge with NCIBA
More than a quarter century after forming the first children's booksellers organization in the country, the Northern California Children's Booksellers Association will merge with its counterpart, the Northern California Independent Booksellers Association. "It's a relief," says longtime NCCBA board member Luan Stauss, owner of Oakland's Laurel Bookstore. New Leaf Literary & Media Stages Multiple-Author Event
Five YA authors, more than 200 attendees, 540 books sold. These are the impressive numbers tied to a panel presentation and signing held at Anderson's Bookshop in Naperville, Ill. on August 30. The event was unusual in that it was organized by the authors' agency, Manhattan-based New Leaf Literary & Media, Inc., and offered, as an incentive to boost sales, a booklet containing "exclusive" bonus content contributed by all five featured authors, who published their novels with four different houses. more » »
