Announced at TOC Frankfurt, beginning today users can import e-books purchased at Amazon and Barnes & Noble into their BookShout accounts and have all their e-book titles available in one location. more » ADVERTISEMENT Writers Groups Want Publisher-Google Terms Made Public The American Society of Journalists and Authors, the National Writers Union, and Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America have asked the Department of Justice to review last week's settlement between the AAP and Google that ended the publishers' seven-year copyright fight with the giant company. Most of the details in the agreement are confidential and the three organizations, worried that the settlement could hurt authors' rights by selling copyrighted books illegally, said they want the DoJ to see if the deal may violate antitrust laws. The organizations are calling on publishers and Google to make all the settlement terms public. more » After launching a self-publishing platform this summer, e-book retailer Kobo has enlarged its publishing portfolio again after agreeing to acquire Aquafadas, a digital publishing platform that allows publishers to easily and economically build multimedia apps for children's books, comics, magazines, and newspapers without using a programmer. MORE » It is a truth universally acknowledged, that strong sales in the run up to the fall regionals lead to good trade shows and the New England Independent Booksellers Association's 39th annual fall conference held at the Rhode Island Convention Center in Providence from October 3-5 was no exception. "The show's been very, very good. Booksellers are just feeling good about the fall," says Penguin Group sales representative Karl Krueger. Roman & Littlefield International will be based in London and will acquire titles in the humanities and social sciences categories for not just the U.K. and European markets but for all markets outside of the U.S., Gadsby said.
