| S&S Reorganizes Adult Group; Levin to Leave Free Press Simon & Schuster CEO Carolyn Reidy has reorganized the company's adult publishing imprints into four main groups. Under the new structure, the Atria Publishing Group will be led by Judith Curr; the Scribner Publishing Group, by Susan Moldow; the Simon & Schuster Publishing Group, by Jonathan Karp; and the Gallery Publishing Group, will be under Louise Burke. As a result of the reorganization Martha Levin, executive v-p and publisher of Free Press, and Dominick Anfuso, v-p and editorial director, are leaving the company. Other staffer have also been cut, with the total reduction believed to be less than 10. more » D&M Publishers, one of Canada's largest independent houses, has filed for bankruptcy protection but will continue to operate while it restructures. more » ADVERTISEMENT Majority of Young Readers Still Use Libraries Some 80% of Americans ages 16-29 have read a book in the past year, and six in ten say they have used their local public library, but library attitudes among that age group are somewhat in flux, according to a survey released today by the Pew Research Center's Internet & American Life Project, with younger readers reporting that they are reading more in an "era of digital content," and increasingly on their mobile devices, suggesting "opportunities of further engagement with libraries" later in life. more » Ardy Khazaei has been named the new CEO of Bookish, succeeding Caroline Marks who left in mid-September. Yesterday New York City's oldest children's-only bookstore, Books of Wonder launched a $100,000 fundraiser on indiegogo. For the 22-year-old bookstore it wasn't so much the effect of the downturn of the economy on book sales as the loss of rent and utilities when the bakery that shared its space closed 18 months ago. more » » ADVERTISEMENT Filling a position that has been opened since Matt Brown left at the end of 2011, Jeff Pinsker has been named president of Klutz and a v-p of Scholastic. Kurtz was the author of more than 50 books and an ardent advocate for the secular and scientific worldview. Ingram Adds E-tailers to CoreSource Ingram announced this morning the names of e-book retailers that have joined its CoreSource Plus network over the past six months: Bilbary, Copia, Books-A-Million, iPublishCentral, Fishpond, BookShout!, Flikkt, Page Foundry, Baker & Taylor, and Ingram's e-textbook platform VitalSource Bookshelf have all signed on. All new retail channels are expected to be live by the end of 2012. more » Samantha Young's On Dublin Street spent weeks atop Amazon's Kindle chart, which culminated in a seven-figure sale to Penguin earlier this month. The e-book edition, priced at $3.99 before the deal, has slipped to #196 as of October 23, 11 days after it was republished under the NAL banner.
