| In the latest effort to use digital technology to transform how consumers, students and teachers engage classic literature, Sourcebooks is releasing The Shakesperience, enhanced e-books that exploit the iPad's touchscreen technology to bring Shakespeare's plays to life in new ways with a rich selection of carefully chosen multimedia and text content. Sourcebooks Shakesperience versions for Hamlet, Romeo and Juliet and Othello release today, selling for $9.99 via Apple's iBookstore. more » In a release, library vendor 3M announced that its library e-book pilot with Penguin has gone live. Under the deal, patrons at the New York Public Library and the Brooklyn Public Library will now be able to check out a selection of Penguin titles via the 3M Cloud Library eBook Lending Service. The e-books will be available under a one year license with renewable terms, and will not include new books until six months after publication. The program with 3M comes after Penguin pulled its digital titles from OverDrive in November 2011. more » ADVERTISEMENT Mamiverse.com, a site offering content catered to Latina mothers, is launching a books section called Mamiverse Books. The books section will feature author interviews and reviews of children's books, including picture books, middle grade, young adult and bilingual titles. B&N has a corporate policy to not carry physical copies of books acquired by Amazon Publishing in its stores, but as pointed out on Melville House's blog yesterday, some copies had been turning up in B&N outlets. Any B&N outlets that were carrying the title ordered them on their own. more »
John Wiley to Acquire Deltak.edu for $220 Million John Wiley continues to diversify its business portfolio, reaching an agreement to acquire Deltak.edu, for $220 million. Calvin Trillin won the 2012 Thurber Prize for American Humor, presented Monday night at Carolines on Broadway in New York. The humorist, who is about to celebrate 50 years as a staff writer for The New Yorker and is The Nation's "Deadline Poet" won for his latest collection, Quite Enough of Calvin Trillin: Forty Years of Funny Stuff (Random House). The second book in Sylvia Day's Crossfire series, Reflected in You (Berkley), was released as an e-book on October 2, with the print edition to follow on October 23. On its e-book release date, the title is #1 on the Kindle bestseller list, knocking On Dublin Street off the top spot.
