The move will not only make HarperCollins' U.S. list more widely available in India, but also bring more Indian writers to a global English-language audience. more » In a move long envisioned by English speaking fans of Japanese comics, Viz Media is going to synchronize the publication of Weekly Shonen Jump Alpha, its weekly English-language digital manga anthology, with the Japanese-language manga series it publishes. Barnes & Noble Launches PubIt! in U.K. Barnes & Noble announced last month that its Nook reading devices, as well as e-books and applications for reading them, would become available in the U.K. Starting this week, U.K. customers (including those in England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland) are now also able to purchase e-books created using PubIt!, B&N's self-service e-Book publishing program. more » » Ingram Content Group has promoted one, and hired another, in its library services division. Dan Sheehan has been promoted to v-p and general manager of the group, and Pamela Smith has been hired as v-p of global sales. Smith is starting at the company on December 3. more » » Chris Van Allsburg's The Polar Express has a new and worthwhile destination this holiday season. The 1986 Caldecott Medal winner will land in the hands of thousands of children thanks to a social media-based initiative launched by HMH Children's Book Group in partnership with the nonprofit literacy organization First Book. Powell's Books in Portland, Ore., has created White Whale Ale in partnership with Rogue Ales and Spirits to celebrate its 41st Anniversary. Literally infused with the spirit of Moby-Dick, this special-edition ale contains actual pages from a copy of Melville's classic novel, one of founder Michael Powell's favorite books. White Whale Ale is available at Rogue Hall in the heart of the Portland State University campus and the Rogue Distillery and Public House, located just blocks from Powell's flagship store.
