| September Bookstore Sales Fell 8% Bookstore sales took a tumble in September, falling 8.2%, to $1.39 billion, according to preliminary estimates released Wednesday morning by the U.S. Census Bureau. Last September was the final month of Borders' going-out-of business sales. Fred Kaplan's The Insurgents: David Petraeus and the Plot to Change the American Way of War is now set for January 2, with a new postscript about the former CIA chief's recent resignation. It was planned for January 15. more » » According to Nielsen BookScan, Paula Broadwell's All In sold 74 copies for the week ending November 11. The Petraeus affair story broke on Friday, November 9, meaning the sales are only representative for the first few days after the news. The book, published by Penguin Press in January, will release a paperback on December 24. To date, the hardcover has sold 22,000 copies. The current week's sales were triple the week previous. more » » The year's strong slate of independent comics arts festivals ended with Saturday's Brooklyn Comics and Graphic festival, held at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Williamsburg and at satellite events around Brooklyn.
