Macmillan Allowing Limited E-book Discounting
While it continues to fight the Department of Justice's e-book price-fixing charges in court, Macmillan has quietly started offering retailers some flexibility to discount certain titles. In recent months, Macmillan began to allow their agents to discount e-books that are priced at $13.99 and above by up to 10% of the digital list price on a title by title basis. more »

Adventure Launches Mystery Fiction Line
Adventure Publications, which has been focused on regional, nature and outdoor guides for almost 25 years, is launching a new line of mystery fiction titles. The mysteries--they will initially will be set in the Midwest, Southwest, Northwest, Northeast, and Rocky Mountain regions--will target both mystery fans and outdoor enthusiasts by featuring outdoor/wilderness settings and themes. Four titles for adults will be published in both hardcover and e-book in 2013, with Minneapolis-area mystery writer Pat Dennis in charge of acquisitions. more » »
Unique Translation Prize Aims For U.S. Publication
Kurt Beals has won the first ever German Book Office translation competition, giving him a $600 commission to translate the first 15 pages of Nora Bossong's novel Gesellschaft mit beschraenkter Haftung into English. The book's German publisher, Hanser Verlag, will send Beals's translation out to U.S. publishing house in the hopes of it getting acquired. more » »
