Inkling Turns Web Searches into New Storefront For Digital Books
In a development that aims to raise the level of book discoverability while also offering an "end run" around Amazon.com, Inkling, a software developer specializing in creating multimedia content for the iPad, is launching the Inkling Content Discovery Platform, a way of structuring Inkling content that can be indexed by Google and link Web searches directly to enriched and saleable content within a book. Inkling CEO and founder Matt MacInnis will debut the ICDP technology at the Digital Book World conference in New York on Thursday. more »

Raab Named President and Publisher of Grand Central
Jamie Raab has been promoted to president and publisher of Grand Central Publishing. Raab has been with GCP (and Warner Books before that) for 25 years and has headed GCP as executive v-p and publisher. In announcing the promotion, Hachette Book Group CEO David Young called Raab "a brave and brilliant publisher, a trusted leader in the company, and an impassioned champion of authors." more »
Cascardi Joins Egmont USA; Law to Leave Company
Egmont USA has appointed Andrea Cascardi to the new combined role of managing director and publisher, replacing Elizabeth Law, effective immediately. Cascardi joins Egmont USA from the Transatlantic Literary Agency; previously she worked at Disney Publishing, Kingfisher USA, and the Knopf and Crown imprints at Random House Children's Books. Law was Egmont USA's originating publisher, and is leaving the company after five years. more »
Printer Refuses to Print Marie Calloway's Tyrant Books Debut
Sales of erotic books have surged in the wake of E.L. James' Fifty Shades success, but does Marie Calloway's forthcoming Tyrant release What Purpose Did I Serve in Your Life cross a line? For printer Sterling Pierce, the answer is apparently yes. Gearing up for a June publication, Tyrant publisher Giancarlo DiTrapano this week received word that the printer has refused the job "due to the content." more »

TheWriteDeal, a year-old e-book publisher and distributor started by New York City-based editors and authors, launched its e-Leaf Store for e-content this week. Senior editor Irene Schneider describes e-leafs as "digital missives from writers directly to their readers." E-leafs range from serialized excerpts to fuller works in both English and Spanish in a variety of categories, with prices ranging from free to $7.99. more » »
London Book Fair Announces IPA Education Conference
The International Publishers Association and the London Book Fair (LBF) announced the program for the first IPA International Education Conference, a one day event that will run alongside LBF on April 17, 2013.
