| Von Mehren Leaving in Reorg of RHPG Trade Paperbacks As publishers continue to tinker with the publishing cycle of books in the digital age, the Random House Publishing Group has decided to decentralize the publication of its trade paperbacks, leaving their release to the original publishing team. As a result, Jane von Mehren, senior v-p, publisher, trade paperbacks, is leaving the company. more » In the first week of 2013, four books debuted in the top 20 bestsellers, according to Nielsen BookScan. The top debut was Dean Koontz's Odd Interlude, which sold 21,000 copies, good enough to place it #5 overall, behind only The Third Wheel, Proof of Heaven, Fifty Shades of Grey, and Big Sky River by Linda Miller. more » The Hachette Book Group has completed the restructuring of its sales operation that began last October, appointing David Epstein as v-p of sales, young readers. Epstein is moving to HBG with more than 25 years of experience in book sales, most recently as director of national accounts for Disney. He will report to Chris Murphy, senior v-p of retail sales. more » The American Booksellers Association is starting off the new year in their new offices on a high note with strong sales for indies, according to CEO Oren Teicher. In a letter to membership in this week's Bookselling This Week, he noted that sales for independents were up almost 8%, based on unit sales for 500 stores reporting to the Indie Bestseller List.
