2013 BEA Author Breakfasts Announced
BEA has announced its lineup of author breakfasts for 2013. On Thursday, May 30, at the Adult Book & Author Breakfast, 8:00 am-9:30 am, Chelsea Handler, Ishmael Beah, Doris Kearns Goodwin, and Wally Lamb will be featured. more »
D&M Alums Start New House
Three former executives with Canada's D&M Publishing have launched a new company focused on illustrated books called Figure 1 Publishing. The move comes after D&M, one of Canada's largest independents, filed for bankruptcy in the fall. Figure 1 founders Chris Labonté, Peter Cocking and Richard Nadeau will be publishing in print and digital formats, and will use a hybrid business model under which individuals and organizations will pay for production and Figure 1 will take on editing, marketing, and distribution functions. more »
Michele Martin Named V-P and Associate Publisher at Gallery
Michele Martin will join Gallery Books Group as v-p and associate publisher March 4, reporting to Louise Burke. Martin has been with Simon & Schuster before, from 1994-1999, when she held the position of v-p, associate publisher of the Simon & Schuster imprint. Most recently, she founded and ran MDM Management, which will now be assumed by CSG Literary Partners. more »
Jacquelyn Mitchard's New Venture Has 'Merit'
Author Jacquelyn Mitchard has created a new imprint for F+W, Merit Press, aimed at teens. In late December and early January, the imprint – named after one of Mitchard's daughters as well as for her aspirations for the quality of the writing – released its first five books. more »
