Bookstore Sales Slipped in 2012
A late year rally was not enough to keep bookstore sales from falling again in 2012, but the 0.5% decline was the smallest in years. According to preliminary estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau, bookstore sales for 2012 were $15.21 billion, down from $15.28 billion in 2011. For December, bookstore sales increased 2.9% over December 2011, hitting $1.69 billion. more »
Rowman & Littlefield Sales Up; Will Focus on R&L Branding
As part of its strategy to expand in the academic, professional and reference markets, Rowman & Littlefield will consolidate a number of its imprints under its flagship Rowman & Littlefield imprint. The move follows a 2012 when sales rose 6%, to $50 million, at R&L while sales at its sister company NBN/NBNi declined slightly to $81 million. more »

DailyLit, Plympton Join Forces
DailyLit, which began as a service in 2006 to e-mail short installments of books for consumers to read on different mobile devices, is being merged with Plympton, a digital publishing house dedicated to serialized fiction founded by journalist Jennifer 8. Lee and the novelist Yael Goldstein Love. Lee plans to use DailyLit's digital platform to continue to offer serialized titles from other publishing houses, but also to promote Plympton's original series. more »
