Greystone Books Gets Canadian Buyer

Heritage House Publishing Acquires Greystone Books
With an assist from Perseus Books Group, Heritage House Publishing has acquired the Greystone Books imprint from D&M Publishers, which filed for bankruptcy last year. Perseus's PGW unit will continue to distribute Greystone titles in the U.S. and will extend its distribution to include all territories around the world except Canada where HarperCollins Canada will remain Greystone's distributor. more »
Templar Publishing Buys Piccadilly Press
In a notable children's deal in the U.K., Piccadilly Press, the children's book publisher founded by Brenda Gardner 29 years ago, has been acquired by Templar Publishing, the children's publisher owned by Bonnier Publishing Ltd. Piccadilly Press will continue to publish under its own imprint and Gardner will remain publisher, reporting to managing director Mike McGrath. It will, however, use the creative, sales and administrative resources of Templar Publishing and the wider Bonnier Publishing Group. more »

Bertelsmann May Reduce RTL Holdings
Bertelsmann has announced it is considering reducing its 93% stake in broadcaster RTL Group, though it will continue to hold a stake of about 75%. Any funds generated by the sale of shares in RTL will be "used to implement the Bertelsmann corporate strategy with its four key strategic objectives strengthening the core business, digital transformation, expansion of growth platforms and entering growth regions," chairman Thomas Rabe said. more »

Crafting Publisher Introduces Tween Imprint
C&T Publishing, a three-decade-old stalwart in quilting books, is carving new terrain with the spring launch of FunStitch Studio, a new imprint which aims to entice 8- to 14-year-olds to trade in their personal technology gizmos for some fabric, thread, and a sewing machine. The imprint, which will offer six new titles a year beginning in March, is the Northern California-based publisher's first foray into children's books. more » »
Worlds Collide in New Rick Riordan Short Story
What if Percy Jackson and Carter Kane – the stars of Rick Riordan's bestselling mythology-inspired series – Percy Jackson and the Olympians, The Heroes of Olympus, and The Kane Chronicles – met each other? That's the question Riordan has now answered in a new short story called "The Son of Sobek." Obituary: Carolyn Forsman
Carolyn Forsman, former librarian and advocate for free speech, died January 19 at the age of 69. According to the American Booksellers Foundation for Free Expression, she raised more than $150,000 for free expression groups, mainly through designing jewelry and creating pieces that celebrated the freedom to read, including her well-known "I Read Banned Books" bracelet. more » »
