Bob Miller, who took over as group publisher of Workman Publishing in March 2010, will leave the company April 5. In addition, Carolan Workman said in a memo that company founder Peter Workman's health "will not allow him to return to Workman in any significant capacity." For the immediate future, the memo said, Susan Bolotin will serve as acting publisher of the Workman imprint. more »
Abrams Announces Wimpy Kid #8
At the Bologna Children's Book Fair on Monday, Abrams announced the November publication of the (as-yet-untitled) eighth book in Jeff Kinney's bestselling Diary of a Wimpy Kid series.The book will be published by Abrams's Amulet Books imprint in the U.S. in November, with near-simultaneous publication taking place in seven additional countries. more »
Fodor's Committed to Print
In light of last week's news that Google has pulled the plug on print editions of Frommer's guidebooks, Amanda D'Acierno, senior v-p and publisher of Fodor's Travel, made a few comments about her company's commitment to print guidebooks, pointing to a "robust" print schedule. more »
IDPF Debuts Readium Foundation and ePub 3 SDK
Readium.org, an open source initiative supporting ePub 3 launched by the International Digital Publishers Forum, has been organized into the Readium Foundation, a formal membership organization, that will debut at the Paris Book Fair and launch with about two dozen members. The goal of the organization is to significantly expand the EPUB ecosystem. more »
B&N, S&S Term Dispute Continues
On Friday, the Wall Street Journal, followed by the New York Times, provided an update on the standoff between Simon & Schuster and Barnes & Noble that has resulted in the chain cutting the number of titles it is carrying from the house and the amount of promotion support the books are getting. The dispute, over terms, first broke out in late January, when PW first reported that B&N was reducing orders over a perceived lack of financial support from S&S. more »
Marketplace Fairness Act Gets Closer
With Friday's Senate vote of 75 to 24 in favor of the Marketplace Fairness Act amendment to the FY 2014 budget resolution, bricks-and-mortar retailers were heartened that e-fairness could become a reality this year. Although it was a procedural move to test support for the act, ABA CEO Oren Teicher called it "a big step forward in our campaign for sales tax fairness. Importantly, this victory may now open the door to the passage of federal e-fairness legislation." more »

WSJ, Harper Doing Quickie Pope E-book
