| Wiley Looks to Cut $80 Million in Costs In reporting third quarter results for the period ended January 31, John Wiley & Sons announced further plans to change its operations and cut costs to accommodate the transition from print to digital. more »  After the Science Fiction Writers of America (SFWA) came out swinging on Wednesday, with its president saying that it would not allow authors publishing with Random House's e-only science fiction imprint Hydra to use that achievement as a credential for membership, the publisher has responded. more »  A source at Hyperion has confirmed a Wall Street Journal story saying that the publisher is looking to sell some of its backlist titles that do not fit with its new strategy focused on synergy. With this decision, books that cannot be linked to parent company Walt Disney (and its other media properties) will be sold. more » The 2012 Barnes & Noble Discover Awards went to The Orchardist by Amanda Coplin (Harper) for fiction and Wild by Cheryl Strayed (Knopf) for nonfiction. Mary Albi Named Phaidon VP Beginning April 1, Mary Albi will take over the U.S. operation at Phaidon Press as v-p. Albi has previously worked at Phaidon, having led the U.S. operation until leaving in 2003. The company was acquired in October by Leon Black. more » »  Yawn's Books in Canton, Ga. has been operating a publishing business since 2008 and with 92 print books and 13 e-books published, it is now expanding Yawn's Publishing. more » » Tracy Behar has been promoted to v-p, executive editor at Little, Brown. She has been with the company for eight years. At Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, Sandy Grebenar has been promoted to senior v-p, production and creative services. Michaela Sullivan has been named v-p, creative director MacKenzie Fraser-Bub has joined Trident as a women's fiction agent. She was most recently in marketing for Touchstone Books. At Running Press, Gigi Lamm will join on March 11 as senior publicist, reporting to Allison Devlin. She was most recently senior press officer at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Effective immediately, Zachary Wagman is promoted to senior editor and Christine Kopprasch is promoted to associate editor for Crown/Hogarth. more » »
