| James Patterson, frustrated at the lack of direction in the future of books conversation, took out ads in PW, The New York Times Book Review and Kirkus this past weekend hoping to spark a fresh dialogue about books and reading in the culture. more » After five years with Granta magazine, John Freeman, the editor, has decided to leave the company following the publication of the summer issue, Travel. “Editing this magazine has been a joy and a privilege,” Freeman said. “I feel lucky to have worked with writers of such extraordinary talent, and colleagues so dedicated to publishing their work well.” more » Looking to provide more information on enhanced e-books—e-books that include video, interactive features, or other multimedia content—HarperCollins has launched a Web site listing the enhanced e-books it has published. The site, aimed at consumers and the house's own authors, has gone live with a list of about 13 titles. 'Bamboo Stalk' Wins International Prize for Arabic Fiction The Bamboo Stalk by Saud Alsanousi has been announced as the winner of the sixth International Prize for Arabic Fiction. The winner was named by this year's Chair of Judges, the Egyptian writer and academic Galal Amin, at a prize ceremony in Abu Dhabi.
